Kabaka Mukabya Walugembe Mutesa I Kayira, Kabaka of Buganda. b. at the Batandabezala Palace, Mulago, ca. 1837, son of Kabaka Suna II Kalema Kansinjo Mukabya Semungwa Mutesa I Sewankambo Walugembe Migekyamye Lukeberwa Kyetutumala Magulunyondo Luwambya Omutanda Segwanga, Kabaka of Buganda, by his wife, Abakyala Muganzirwazzaza, the Namasole, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, October 1856. Crowned at Nabulagala. Established his capital at Nakatema. Received the explorers Speke in 1862 and Stanley in 1875. Dispatched an Embassy to Queen Victoria 1879. The first of his line to convert to Christianity. m. several wives including, (1) Kavebukasa, daughter of Mwerumubi, of the Ngeye clan. m.
